SNAP EBT FAQs
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is the largest federal nutrition assistance program in the country. Aiding low-income individuals and families, SNAP works with an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card, which is like a debit card that purchases SNAP eligible food and drinks.
You can buy items that meet USDA SNAP eligibility guidelines. For the current list of USDA SNAP-eligible food items, visit:

Only items sold by ALDI.us are eligible to be paid with SNAP. Customers are not authorized to use SNAP EBT cards to pay for any non-SNAP eligible items, tips, delivery fees, ordering fees or convenience fees that may apply to an online order. Non-SNAP eligible items, tips, delivery fees, ordering fees or convenience fees must be paid for using other payment methods such as credit or debit cards.
The SNAP EBT card can only be authorized by customer pin entry at the time of checkout, so we can only charge the amount that was authorized at that time. The backup card will get charged if the final total at the time of fulfillment exceeds the original total shown at checkout.
Examples of what may cause this to happen:
- Substituted item is higher in price than the original item: ALDI does not price match on item substitutions
- Weighted item final total exceeds weighted item original total: Weighted item prices shown online are average prices
- Pricing and promotions that no longer apply (price changes between when the order is placed and when it is fulfilled)
- Items added at curbside or during the fulfillment process will cause the final total to exceed the original total
Yes, you can buy non-SNAP-eligible items in the same order as SNAP-eligible items. At checkout, you will be able to pay with your EBT card & another form of payment. Please note, only one EBT card can be added & used per order.
No, there is no minimum order amount to use your SNAP benefits for pickup or delivery.
Add a new EBT card or select a previously-added EBT card during checkout. There is a maximum of one EBT card allowed per account.
At this time, if order modifications are needed after the order is placed, they can be made by canceling your order and placing a new one.
If you wish to cancel your order, you can do so by:
- Logging into your account
- Selecting "orders" from the account menu
- Selecting the order you wish to cancel
Clicking the "cancel order" button on the bottom left of the screen. Once an order is pending, the cancel button will not be available to select, and no further modifications can be made. For delivery, modifications such as adding or removing an item from the order can be requested via text to the personal shopper once they start working on the order.
No, delivery fees & other associated charges may not be paid for with SNAP benefits. Only eligible food may be purchased with SNAP benefits. You may pay for fees using another payment type.
If you don't want to use all your available SNAP funds, you can edit the amount you want to apply to the order during checkout under Payment Method. If you don't have enough available SNAP funds to cover your eligible items, the remaining portion would be charged to additional stored method of payment.
The existing authorization holds will still occur for EBT purchases. For orders in process, a temporary authorization hold(s) is placed for a slightly higher amount than your estimated order total. This small difference accounts for potential changes in the final total due to special requests, added items, items replaced at a different price and the actual weight of items. This hold will be charged to the additional method of payment vs. EBT card.
If an item has been paid using EBT SNAP but is not available, any substitutions you allow for will be charged to the additonal stored method of payment.
- If you allow for substitutions, we will substitute with an item that is the same or lower priced as the original item.
- If an alternate item is not available, the original item will be cancelled and a refund will be issued to your EBT SNAP card.
- If we must substitute with an item of higher price, any difference in cost for your substitution will be charged to the alternate payment card. Amounts charged to non-SNAP payment methods will be subject to tax.
For SNAP orders with a receipt, an item can be refunded to SNAP EBT account or exchanged for another unit of the same item. Return of funds by cash, credit or gift card is not allowed. See additional details on our return policy here:
Yes, EBT pin will be required each time to be entered at checkout.
